Archives Policies

Mission

The Collins Memorial Library Archives serves as a resource center for the study of the history of the University of Puget Sound. In pursuing this mission, it will

• Collect, organize, preserve, and describe records of permanent administrative and historical value for the purpose of documenting the history of the University, its administrative and academic units, and the activities of its faculty, students, and alumni;
• Provide facilities for the retention, preservation and research use of such record;
• Provide information services to assist University administration and other users of the University Archives, and;
• Serve in a public relations capacity by promoting knowledge and understanding of the origins, aims, programs, and goals of the University.

Collection Policy

The University Archives collects and maintains those institutional records and items having permanent historical value. Records of administrative, legal or fiscal importance fall under the auspices of the Division of Finance and Administration.  See their Business Records Retention Policy.  The purpose of collecting and preserving records of historical value is to provide documentation of the development and growth of the University, with emphasis on its teaching function, its role in the community, the activities of the faculty, students and alumni, and the physical development of the campus. The decision to select and preserve records of historical value is the responsibility of the Collins Library Archives.

• Images on this website may be copied for personal use only. Use of images for publication or exhibition requires written permission of the University of Puget Sound and possible payment of fees.
• Materials on this website must be credited to the University of Puget Sound Archives and to the photographer or creator (if known).
• Images on this site must not be altered (cropped/overcopied, etc) without written permission of the University of Puget Sound Archives.
• In granting permission for publication or other use, the University of Puget Sound Archives does not surrender its right to exhibit, publish, or otherwise reproduce the materials.
• It is the user's responsibility to guard against the infringement of rights that might be held by others. The University of Puget Sound is not responsible for the improper or illegal use of any copies of materials held in its collection.

Donation Policy

The University Archives welcomes any offer of privately owned material bearing on the history of the institution or anything that may enrich our collection of private papers, provided that the Archives incurs no obligation to retain such material as an integrated collection or in any prescribed form. Letters, diaries, campus memorabilia or materials relating to Methodism in the Northwest, are just a few examples of materials you may wish to donate. Copyright Statement

Collins Library provides access to its collections in order to support research and education. Some materials in these collections may be protected by the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.). In addition, the use or reproduction of some items may be restricted by the terms of the gift or purchase agreements, donor restrictions, privacy and publicity rights, or University policy. It is the user's responsibility to determine and satisfy copyright or any other use restrictions when publishing or otherwise disseminating materials found in the collections.
