The University Archives collects and maintains those institutional records and items having permanent historical value. Records of administrative, legal or fiscal importance fall under the auspices of the Division of Finance and Administration. See their Business Records Retention Policy. The purpose of collecting and preserving records of historical value is to provide documentation of the development and growth of the University, with emphasis on its teaching function, its role in the community, the activities of the faculty, students and alumni, and the physical development of the campus. The decision to select and preserve records of historical value is the responsibility of the Collins Library Archives.
The University Archives welcomes any offer of privately owned material bearing on the history of the institution or anything that may enrich our collection of private papers, provided that the Archives incurs no obligation to retain such material as an integrated collection or in any prescribed form. Letters, diaries, campus memorabilia or materials relating to Methodism in the Northwest, are just a few examples of materials you may wish to donate. Collins Library provides access to its collections in order to support research and education. Some materials in these collections may be protected by the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.). In addition, the use or reproduction of some items may be restricted by the terms of the gift or purchase agreements, donor restrictions, privacy and publicity rights, or University policy. It is the user's responsibility to determine and satisfy copyright or any other use restrictions when publishing or otherwise disseminating materials found in the collections.
